Welcome – So you have decided to train your dog.

We hope you will have fun and learn how to have a well behaved dog and that the
following information will be helpful and informative. Should you have any
further questions please do not hesitate to ask your instructor.

As dog trainers we are all glad you have taken the step to do some work with
your dog. Done properly you and your dog should learn to live in harmony and
hopefully really enjoy each others company.

You may even find yourself a new hobby and may want to go on to trial your dog.
Whatever your expectations you and your dog will be better for it and hopefully
like many others enjoying this sport and hobby, you will make some good friends
along the way.

We would like you to be aware however that like most clubs this is a non profit
organization, run entirely by volunteer officers, committee and instructors,
giving freely of their time and knowledge to assist you.

Our club is called the Jimboomba Dog Training Club. Herein after referred to as
J.D.T.C. The Club has been running since February 1982.

The objects of the club are to promote obedience, dog sports, to show the
usefulness of the dog as a pet and companion, and to conduct obedience and agility trials

Obedience Classes are held on Monday evenings (weather permitting) from 7.00pm
to 7.45pm for beginners class and classes 1 and 2.
Then 8.00pm until 8:45pm for classes 3 and trialing class.
3. Agility is held on Tuesdays and Wednesday nights

It is suggested that you arrive on the grounds at least 15 minutes before
your class is due to start. This gives you time to pay fees settle your dog and
listen to any announcements.

Any breed of dog whether cross bred or purebred over the age of 3 months is
eligible to train at our club. The handler must be over 10 years old and capable
of understanding instructions and physically capable of controlling the dog in
their care.

For new dogs and handlers we work on an intake system contact club for details For Insurance purposes it is necessary for you
to become a member of our club to train on our grounds.

Our Instructors are available to demonstrate to you how to train your own dog.
The best training is done in small sessions of 10- 15 minutes every day. Once a
week training sessions at the club are simply not enough for your dog. You must
make the effort every day to get in to the training habit. You may fall behind
the rest of the class if you do not keep up the practice at home. Dogs and
Handlers are assessed at the end of each month and may be e1evated to the next
class if they are able to meet the required competence level.

If you are having problems with your dog that you feel are not being covered in
class please speak to your instructor or the chief instructor after class.

Please remember all dogs are different and they will progress at different
speeds.

RULES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1) No dog is allowed on the grounds without a lead. The only off lead
work allowed under instructors supervision

2) Bitches in Season must not be brought onto or near the training
grounds. 

3) No child under 10 years is allowed to train a dog on these grounds.

4) Appropriate footwear to be worn. i.e. covered in shoes/trainers.

5) Should your dog foul the grounds it is your responsibility to clean up after it.
Plastic bags are provided for this purpose and it is always handy to carry a
couple in your pocket to save a lot of walking to and from the canteen.

6) Keep your dog fairly close to you while in close proximity to other
dogs.
Be aware of your dog and other dogs and avoid confrontations. 
Move away from a dog that takes an obvious dislike to your dog or vice versa.

7) If your dog has a tendency to bite either people or other dogs it
will be required wear a muzzle for the safety of all.

8) Dogs MUST be supervised at all times. Do not tether your dog and
leave them unattended.

9) Chatting with other handlers during the class or not being attentive
to the instructor is disruptive and at times rude. If you do not pay attention
you may miss out on something important being taught. In any case if you wish to
chat please leave the class so that others may concentrate and learn.

10) Handlers are required to behave in an appropriate and polite
manner. Inappropriate behaviour may result in you being asked to leave the
grounds.

11) No harsh handling of dogs will be allowed. Anyone seen hitting or
kicking their dogs will be asked to leave.

12) YELLOW ribbon – if you see a dog with a yellow ribbon on its collar
or lead this means you must ask the handler’s permission before approaching
yourself or allowing your dog to approach
